We are extremely proud of what we were able to accomplish in 2020 and what we’ve been up to in 2021. In particular, the interest in our Community Sailing Program has grown tremendously and we just wrapped up our most comprehensive and exciting season to date: ten weeks of a sailing and boat building summer camp in partnership with Wind & Oar Boat School (W&O), Willamette Sailing Club (WSC), and several local organizations who provide services for traditionally underrepresented Portland youth. This program was piloted with great success in 2020 and expanded in 2021.
Students spent mornings building a wooden skiff with expert W&O instructors, had lunch provided by OYSF, and then sailed with US Sailing-certified WSC coaches. Thanks to grants from the Oregon Community Foundation, the TK Foundation, and the Multnomah Athletic Fund, all of this was at no cost to participants. Expect to see more of this STEAM-focused, culturally responsive collaboration in the future.
We’re also very proud to announce that we are 2021 sponsors of the Columbia Gorge Racing Association, the RiversWest Family Boat Build, US Sailing’s Siebel Sailors Program at WSC, Eugene Yacht Club’s ongoing youth program expansion, AND last but not least…the Third Annual OYSF Sailing Film Festival!
This is a short film competition for youth 25 and under with cash prizes up to $1,000. The deadline for submission is Oct 31st, so mark your calendars, see the details at www.TheSailingFilmFestival.com, and help us spread the word.
In the meantime, enjoy our 2020 annual report and join our email list to stay up to date on our latest news. Stay tuned for what we’ve got in store for the rest of 2021…
