Well, it’s official. The inaugural Oregon Sailing Short Film Competition was a hit! On May 20th, a packed crowd at OYSF’s Benefit Day and Concert moved to the back of the Oregon Pubic House to view the submissions and vote on the winners. It was great to see such enthusiasm for both the adult and youth contestants. Top winners took home $250 while second and third place finishers went home with fancy Columbia Sportswear outdoor bags and a collection of Yeti mugs inside a nifty Yeti cooler.
Thank you to all who submitted and attended. What a special night that was. This was just the beginning for OYSF’s Sailing Short Film Competition. Expect to see bigger and better prizes and screening parties next year. Get your cameras rolling now if you want to be one of the winners…
Youth Category Winners
This hilarious film about the mythical Willamette Shark that lurks beneath Portland’s junior sailors shows just how creative a sailing short film can be. Congratulations to this team of young filmmakers! You set the bar high for next year…

Adult Category Winners
Our top finisher in the adult category confirms just how easily you can deliver a bag from Oregon to Canada without any wheels 😉 The filmmaker Luke Mathers told us this about his work:
With an Offshore Duffle full of Truce packs stowed safely down below, we sailed up the Washington coast and through the strait of Juan de Fuca to arrive in Victoria, British Columbia. It was our most carbon neutral product delivery to date, and a great ride. We finished the race in just under 24 hours of wet and windy conditions.

Second place went to the wet crew of Kokopelli, a Santa Cruz 27 from Portland, OR. Near disasters and epic recoveries earned this team a third place finish overall (no small feat!) in the 2014 Oregon Offshore Race from Astoria, OR to Victoria, BC.
