OYSF Executive Director Matthew Berger grew up cruising the east coast with his family and began racing dinghies at the age of 8 in the Junior Sailing Association of Long Island Sound. He has lived in Portland since 2006 and has been a part of the Willamette Sailing Club staff since 2013 serving as a coach and now Program Director. He is a USCG licensed captain, a US Sailing-certified Level 3 coach of 20+ years and a seasoned racer and cruiser throughout the Pacific Northwest, East Coast and the Caribbean. He is also a professional musician and music teacher who holds a master’s of arts degree in humanities/musicology with a concentration on public sector and non-profit work.
