About OYSF and Community Sailing
Oregon Youth Sailing Foundation’s Community Sailing Program is a one-of-a-kind, premier youth development program that provides free sail and instructor job training to Portland youth who otherwise would not have the opportunity to be on the water. Participants learn to sail while exploring the Willamette and Columbia Rivers, but they also build confidence and community while gaining practical life skills.
Since 2020, our programs have served 200+ students for nearly 1,000 hours of sailing instruction over 50 summer weeks, all at no cost to participants. We’ve hosted students from Haiti, Somalia, Iran, Tanzania, Malaysia, Ukraine, Mexico, the Pacific Islands, and other communities traditionally underrepresented in the Portland sailing scene.
