Lewis & Clark College Starting Off Spring Sailing Right

OYSF recently helped the Lewis & Clark sailing team with funding for transportation to practice and travel to away events. Here they are putting the funds to use getting ready for the spring season…

Women’s Clinic – Lewis and Clark hosted a collegiate women’s clinic at Willamette Sailing Club February 10-11. 28 women from six schools in the Northwest Intercollegiate Sailing Association attended the clinic, which was coached by Martin Gibson, Amanda Tomkins, Caitie Bryson, Oliver, and Torin Lee. Participants sailed in a combination of FJs and 420s. Conditions were clear and sunny with moderate winds on Saturday and light winds on Sunday.

NWICSA Clinic – L&C sailors Anya Jacquez (c/o 2018), Charlotte Brownstone (c/o 2020), and Sally Goldman (c/o 2020) attended the annual NWICSA the weekend of February 24-25. The clinic was hosted at Sail Sand Point and coached by several NWICSA alumni, including L&C alum Haines Whitacre (c/o 2016). L&C sailors got the chance to practice fleet racing tactics on Saturday and learned how to team race on Sunday, sailing with friends from the University of Washington and Western Washington University.
